Joined a band called La Orquesta Perkanse from Isabela and was founded by a young pianist named Carlos Barretto & led by Conguero Ignacio “Nacho”. Valdes who later sold it to José “Joey” Hernández from Mayagüez (where the band relocated to) La Orq. Perkanse recorded two 2 45RPM records, played on various TV shows & shared the stage with Top bands like El Gran Combo, La Sonora Ponceña, Willie Rosario, Orquesta Mulenze, Cheo Feliciano & even backed up Pete “Conde” Rodríguez for a year! James Velez (aka JimmyBoston) studied a year in Music @. La Universidad InterAmericana de San German! Where he learned Rudiments, Piano & Choir singing! After taking a break from College joined The US ARMY RESERVES 6/85 & moved back to NY on 10/8/86 & has lived there ever since in Queens! Happily married for over 32 yrs & have 1 son who is now 25. Since moving to NY he took dancing lessons from Frankie Martînez (Salsa On 2) & Nisa De La Luz (Salsa On 1) to “broaden his horizons” in partner work! As a DJ did a Vinyl record party back in the day with a 6’9” basketball player from Isabela named Eddie Torres (no relation with the Mamboking!) And in the last 10 years, he has (on occasions DJ’d at the Abakua Dance Social @ the last hour!) He also has taken lessons from Congamaster Wilson “Chembo” Corniel on basic Conga (El Tumbao) & Bongo (El Martillo)! Thanks to that he led a percussion trio @ Frankie Martînez’ Abakua Dance Social before the pandemic! This was the only dance social with all the percussion instruments that allowed any & everyone interested to sit down and jam! Nearing his 60TH birthday got invited by the founder of MundoSalsaRadio.com Mr Richard “DJ Capicu” Rivera to be a part of his great team!

He is also being taught by DJ “Angel After Midnight” Rosado! DJ JimmyBoston is looking forward to keeping the “Salsa Flame Lit”! Vayaaa!
